Previous Australia commander Ricky Ponting has scrutinized England’s choice to choose Chris Woakes in front of Mark Wood for the subsequent Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval.
Woakes asserted one wicket for 103 runs in 23.4 first innings over as Australia stepped through order of the Exam with the home side hoping to expand on their initial success of the series in Brisbane.
Ponting said the consideration of Woakes over Wood, who played in the primary Test, inconveniently affects the impact of England all-rounder Ben Stokes.
“It looked to me as though Stokes was given one work, to run in and bowl bouncers many balls,” Ponting advised cricket.com.au.”When he at last found the opportunity to bowl at another batsman and pitch the ball, he got a wicket second ball to (Cameron) Green.
“Woakes was incapable again – I don’t know why they tried picking him in Adelaide when they have Wood there.
“To me Wood would have given them significantly more variety in their assault and afterward Stokes might have pitched it up and bowled like an ordinary seamer, which he’s great at, and Wood might have played the job Stokes had.”
Ponting reprimanded the restricted methodology taken by England skipper Joe Root and his bowling attack.”Apart from the short-ball plan Stokes executed (right off the bat), England didn’t appear to have a very remarkable arrangement later that,” Ponting said.
“It was run in and bowl back-of-a-length and trust that the Aussies will commit errors.
“Indeed, when you’re bowling to two of the best three batsmen on the planet, they’re not going to commit errors. You must figure out how to get them out and change things up.”
Australia arrived at 473-9 preceding proclaiming in the principal innings while England were 17-2 in answer toward the finish of the subsequent day’s play.
